It’s becoming quite a tradition for the Seattle Mariners to open their season on the road.
Not since 2008 have the Mariners started a Major League Baseball season at Safeco Field. And it’s the longest such stretch.
When the tentative Major League Baseball schedule was announced this past week, it shouldn’t have been a surprise that 2013 for the Mariners will begin at Oakland.
The San Francisco Giants haven’t opened at home since 2009, but they request to open on the road when possible to backload their schedule.
Opening Day is almost like a national holiday (at least to some of us). It would be nice to share it.
Once again, the NHL is locking out the players and the 2012-13 season is in doubt.
Why would the NHL do this not long after the same labor strategy eliminated an entire season?
It’s because they can. And because they know hockey fans will come back and fill the arenas again. One media outlet interviewed hockey fans and they said as much.
The fans will wait and show up for whenever the puck drops.
