Both lanes of Highway 14 near Second Street in Washougal were closed earlier today after a pavement grinder overturned in a construction area.

At approximately 1 p.m. the Camas-Washougal Fire Department responded to the scene with two engines and a medic unit. Assistance was requested from the Vancouver Fire Department’s heavy rescue team.

Upon arrival, crews discovered that a pavement grinder had tipped over just east of the Second Street and Highway 14 intersection. According to a press release, the pavement grinder operator had been thrown free when the vehicle tipped over, and he suffered minor injuries.

This section of Highway 14 is the site of the ongoing Washington State Department of Transportation Camas-Washougal safety improvement project.

Due to the proximity of the overturned equipment next to Highway 14, traffic was closed in both directions during the incident.

As of 3 p.m., both lanes of Highway 14 traffic have reopened as crews work to tow the truck from the scene.
