Vancouver Public Schools, in partnership with the video production department at Fort Vancouver High School, will produced 12 live sports broadcasts this fall on Comcast cable Channel 29, said Nick Voll, TV production supervisor for VPS.

Officials honored

The first class was inducted into the Evergreen Football Officials Association Hall of Fame last month.

Steve Miletich, Bob Ollikainen, Dick Young, and the late George Luse combined to officiate 148 seasons of football.

Luse was known as a practical joker, according to the EFOA. He would pull out scissors and cut the long sleeves off of an official if the rest of the crew was wearing short sleeves.

Miletich worked four state finals games and 12 semifinals in his career.

Ollikainen officiated five state finals and 10 semifinals.

Young, who would go on to officiate two state finals, said he got into the profession because he was a football coach and was offended by the officiating.

The EFOA held the induction ceremony last month. Mike Colbrese, the executive director of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, was the keynote speaker.

Schedule change

Friday’s football doubleheader at McKenzie Stadium has new scheduled kickoffs. Evergreen vs. Prairie, originally slated for 8 p.m., will begin at 5 p.m. Heritage vs. Enumclaw will follow at 8 p.m.
