Traffic shifts again on Highway 14

Since construction started on the Highway 14 Safety Improvement Project in June 2011, drivers on the west end of the Highway 14 Safety Improvement Project have been traveling on the existing SR-14 lanes, watching crews build new lanes and a second East Camas Slough Bridge on the north side of the highway.

On Monday, however, crews shifted all traffic over to the new lanes and started doing some excavation on the old (eventually eastbound) lanes.

According to a press release from the Washington State Department of Transportation, the shift should be a smooth transition; the only difference drivers are likely to notice is a change in scenery and some concrete barrier in new places. The work zone speed limit remains at 25 mph.

Temporary changes at Sixth Street

Also starting Monday night, crews began to temporarily limit access at SR-14 and Sixth Street in Washougal.

The temporary signal that’s been in place since last fall was removed, and a barrierwill be placed across the intersection, making it right in/right out only. Drivers won’t be able to turn left in any direction, or cross SR-14 using Sixth Street.

Those who live on the south side of SR 14 and need to travel west can make a legal U-turn at 15th Street in Washougal.
