Brian Humphreys of Washougal shot a 1-under-par 70 on Saturday to win the boys title at the Oregon Junior Golf Tournament of Champions, which was played at Langdon Farms.
Humphreys won the division for boys 14 and 15 by two strokes over Jake Reiff of Lake Oswego. Eddie Abellar of Vancouver finished tied for fifth with a 4-over 75 for the 18-hole competition.
The Tournament of Champions was open only to golfers who won an OGA Junior Golf major tournament during the summer.
Several other golfers from Clark County also finished well in the Tournament of Champions.
In the division for girls 17 and younger, Chloe Bartek of Vancouver finished tied for second place. Her 4-over-par 75 was one stroke behind champion Clare Dittmore of Roseburg.
Spencer Tibbits of Vancouver took second place among eight Intermediate Boys (ages 12-13), shooting a 5-over-par 76 to finish two strokes behind Reese Fisher of Medford.
Diego De La Torre shot a 9-over 80 to finish tied for 11th in the Junior Division for ages 16-17.
De Vera scores for Timbers Academy team
Niko De Vera of Washougal scored a goal for the Portland Timbers Academy under-16 team in a 2-2 draw with Chivas USA on Saturday at Los Angeles in the team’s first match of the season. The Timbers Academy U-16s on Sunday played the Los Angeles Galaxy U-16s to a 1-1 draw.
The Timbers Academy under-18 team lost both of its matches in Southern California, 5-0 to Chivas USA U-18s and 2-0 to the Galaxy U-18s.
The Timbers Academy teams next face the U-18 and U-16 teams for Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila. The U-18s kick off at 1 p.m. and the U-16s take the field at 3:30 p.m.
Youth hockey starts in Vancouver
A new ice hockey program to introduce the game to ages 12 and younger is under way at Mountain View Ice Arena in Vancouver.
The Vancouver Youth Hockey Association will include clinics and four-on-four scrimmages for three different age groups: 8 and younger, 9-10 and 11-12. Most weeks, players can participate in one skills clinic and one session of cross-ice scrimmages using one end of the rink.
Additionally, the VYHA is a member of the Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association and will field a Pee Wee (ages 11-12) level team this season. All players are welcome, regardless of experience.

Tennis center hosts pros
The Vancouver Tennis Center is hosting the “Fly Boys” professional tennis exhibition and dinner on Saturday, Sept. 22 with ATP pros Robert Kendrick and Bobby Reynolds.
Kendrick, a former standout at the University of Washington, and Reynolds will play a singles exhibition, and then a doubles match with VTC pros Steve Robertson and Kean Feeder.
Tickets for the tennis exhibition at VTC are $75 for adults, and $35 for juniors ages 17-and-under. To attend the exhibition and dinner at the Pearson Air Museum, cost is $100. Proceeds will benefit local junior tennis programs at VTC.
An auction is ongoing where two junior tennis player will get to play with the pros. The top two bidders will play in the junior exhibition at 1 p.m. on Sept. 22. The pro exhibition is scheduled for 2 p.m., and the dinner event is at 7 p.m.

Fundraiser features former Mariners
Former Seattle Mariner Bret Boone will be the special guest for a Sept. 22 event in Vancouver to raise money for high school and youth baseball and softball programs.
The Clark County Youth Sports Foundation, founded nine years ago by former major league catcher Tom Lampkin, is hosting this raffle and social event to pay for installation of new scoreboards at the softball and baseball fields at all four Evergreen School District high schools.
The event is at the Clark County Square Dance Hall, 10713 NE 117th Ave.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the first raffle drawing is set for 7:30 p.m. Admission costs $20, which includes one raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased during the event, or online at http://www.ccysf.org. The website includes a list of raffle items, and more details about the event and CCYSF projects.
The foundation also hopes to help Cascade Little League pay off the debt on a recent field improvement project.
