Several events will be held Tuesday to commemorate the 11th anniversary of 9/11.
o In Vancouver, a Patriot Day ceremony is scheduled for 8:40 a.m. outside City Hall, 415 W. Sixth St., on the east side of the building
The event is hosted by the Vancouver Police Department and Vancouver Fire Department, which will provide a combined honor guard. The program includes the ceremonial ringing of a fire department bell.
Vancouver Mayor Pro-Tem Larry Smith will provide the keynote address. Vancouver Interim Police Chief Chris Sutter and Fire Chief Joe Molina also will speak. The public is invited to attend the event held to remember the lives lost and the bravery shown in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
o Camas/Washougal firefighters will hold a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 8 a.m. in front of the Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave.
Firefighters Local 2444 will host a breakfast in the library following the ceremony; both events are open to the public.
o In Hockinson, Fire District 3 will hold a memorial at 6:58 a.m. District personnel will be in formation at the station at 17718 N.E. 159th St. The program includes the ceremonial ringing of a bell and a minute of silence.
Today, district personnel will set up a display of 304 American flags at the station. Each of the 300 smaller flags represent 10 people who died on 9/11. Four larger flags represent the four sites attacked: two in New York City, one at the Pentagon and a site near Shanksville, Pa., where Flight 93 crashed after passengers fought the jetliner’s hijackers.
o Tuesday evening East County Fire & Rescue will host it’s annual 9/11 Ceremony of Rembrance at Station 91, 600 N.E. 267th Ave. in Camas. The volunteer association will host a spaghetti dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dinner donation proceeds will benefit local charities. The ceremony will start at 8 p.m. with the lighting of a display and a reading of the 343 FDNY firefighter names.
