• MacKay Sposito, a design, land survey and construction firm, has added Jack Carlock and Phil Tennis to its construction management department. Carlock, who has extensive experience in special inspection and materials testing for multidisciplinary civil construction projects, will be a construction inspector. Tennis was hired as a senior construction inspector. He has more than 35 years’ experience in the hydropower, construction and electric industries in various capacities.
o Shane Smith has opened Northwest Property Consultants PLLC, a Vancouver-based real estate firm specializing in property management, sales, and consulting services, including lease options. The business is located in the historic Academy building downtown. Smith is a licensed and experienced real estate managing broker, notary public and Realtor.
• Four Southwest Washington eye physicians have teamed up to create a new ophthalmology practice, Eye Care Specialists of Vancouver. The clinic will treat people of all ages. Doctors Richard Bernheimer, Jay Chapman, Paul Keown and Adam Rasky are all board-certified ophthalmologists who have been working in the Vancouver area for at least a decade each.
o Laura Forsyth is the 2012-13 president of the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce. She has been a Camas resident for more than six years and is a past Vancouver Chamber ambassador. Forsyth works for Eleven Wireless, a Portland information technology company.
o Ray Nelson, a Clark County Skills Center electro-digital technologies instructor, has received a Washington IT Academy Innovative Teaching Strategies award from the Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Nelson is beginning his second year as instructor as well as building tech coordinator for the Skills Center campus. The Skills Center is owned and operated by 10 Southwest Washington school districts.
• Jackson Hewitt Tax Service has selected Mamie Carter as a Tax Preparer of the Year. She is one of 15 honorees chosen from the company’s nationwide network of nearly 25,000 tax preparers. Carter was recognized for her exceptional performance and professionalism in delivering the highest quality service to her clients.
New business
• Lifelong Clark County resident Stephanie McLeod opened Serendipity, a resale furniture and home decor store Sept. 1. She also has some antiques for sale. McLeod is a lifelong Clark County resident and this is her first business. The shop at 10501 N.E. Highway 99 in Hazel Dell is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. * 360-828-5523.

o Washington State University Vancouver is recruiting small businesses to participate in its pro bono Business Growth Mentor and Analysis Program. The next round of projects start Jan. 7. Senior business students provide analysis of a company’s financial, market and organizational capabilities and create an actionable plan decision makers can use to grow their business.
