Man survives being struck by vehicle traveling 35 mph

A man, 37, was scraped after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday evening when he tried to cross Northeast Fourth Plain Road near Northeast Burton Road, authorities said.

The man didn’t see an oncoming vehicle as he tried to cross at Fourth Plain and Burton at 6:34 p.m., said Capt. Dave James, a spokesman with the Vancouver Fire Department. Although struck by a vehicle traveling an estimated 35 mph, he did not suffer serious injuries, James said.

He was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth Southwest for multiple abrasions. His name was not released.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, a pedestrian hit by a car at 35 mph has a 99 percent risk of being killed.
