Teams from Vancouver placed one-two in the 43rd Howard and Ethel Sitter Memorial Oregon Bowler Old Timers Tournament, which was held Oct. 20 at AMF 20th Century Lanes in southeast Portland.
Sylvia’s Kegglers won the tournament with a score of 3,341, 13 pins better than runner’s up Geezer Power from Vancouver.
Bowling for the champions were Sylvia Shaw, Jan Long, Steve Long, Gary Liedtke and Diane Bohan. The team is named in honor of Shaw, a long-time participant in this tournament who is still bowling at age 87.
Dating to 1969, the Oregon Bowler Old Timers Tournament was started by the Sitters, who from 1958 to 1992 published Oregon Bowler newspaper. The tournament is open to bowlers 50 and older.
Vancouver bowler Gerry Tate, bowling on a team from Bailey’s Classic Lanes, rolled the tournament’s high game with a 279.

Baseball teams shine
Two teams from Showtime Baseball reached the quarterfinals of the 22nd Desert Fall Classic, a youth tournament played Friday through Sunday in Las Vegas.
Showtime teams went 4-0 in pool play in both the 14-and-under and 15-and-under tournaments. Each team lost in the quarterfinals. The tournament drew more than 200 teams from across the country in 11 different age divisions.
In the under-14 tournament, the Showtime team scored pool-play wins of 10-3, 3-1, 12-1 and 5-4. The 5-4 win over Lifeletics Fury Elite came on a successful squeeze bunt by Sam Christopher that scored Isiah Smith.
In the 14-U quarterfinals, Green Valley (Nevada) Elite beat Showtime 11-7. Green Valley went on to beat Lifeletics Fury 8-0 in the championship game.
Showtime 14-U Red manager Mike Spellacy noted the quarterfinals game was tied after five innings before pitching fatigue caught up with his team.
Players for the 14-U Showtime Red at Las Vegas were Michael Spellacy, Isaiah Smith, Zack Dutcher, Max Bilsborough, Mitch Lines, Trevor Swartz, Sam Christopher, Matt Benjamin, Jake Dukart, Tommy Andrews and Marcus Titialii.
The 15-and-under Showtime Red also rolled to a 4-0 pool-play record. Their scores were 5-3, 10-0, 11-0 and 15-6.
In the quarterfinals, they lost 8-6 to Salt Lake Elite, the team that finished second in the tournament. In the bottom of the seventh in the quarterfinals, Showtime put the tying runs on base with one out but could not score them.
Players for the Showtime 15-U team were Bailey Alley, Zach Pfeifer, Josh Palmquist, Logan Finley, Jarrett Brown, Joe Slack, Brendan Calloway, Liam Fitzpatrick, Jace Bolton, Tanner Lundberg, Austin Cline and Trevor Wharton. The team was managed by Jesse Villanueva.
Youth football playoffs
It’s playoff time for area youth football teams.
Clark County Youth Football had semifinal round playoff games on Saturday and will hold championship games next weekend.
The Pop Warner football playoffs started on Sunday and continue next week.
Championship day for Clark County Youth Football is Saturday at Fishback Stadium in Washougal.
The day begins at 10 a.m. with the eighth-grade championship game between the Brush Prairie Falcons and the East Vancouver Renegades.
At noon, the championship for grades 2-3 features the Vandals (with players from Battle Ground, Brush Prairie and Hockinson) taking on the Kalama Chinooks.
At 2 p.m., the championship game for grades 4-5 matches the Woodland Beavers against the Kalama Chinooks.
At 4 p.m., the championship game for sixth-grade teams matches Woodland against the West Vancouver Grizzlies.
At 6 p.m., the seventh-grade championship game matches the West Vancouver Sharks against the East Vancouver Aztecs.
Pop Warner — In Pop Warner, the Greater Northwest Conference held its semifinal games on Sunday at Battle Ground District Stadium.
In the Junior Pee Wee Division for ages 8-11, the Evergreen Bulldogs beat the Vancouver Warriors 19-6, and the North County Wildcats edged the Cowlitz Colts 14-12.
In the Pee Wee Division for ages 9-12, the North County Wildcats beat the East County Jets, and the Evergreen Bulldogs advanced with a forfeit win over the Portland Saints.
The championship and consolation games are scheduled for Sunday at McKenzie Stadium.
Both championship games feature teams from the Evergreen and North County Pop Warner clubs. The Junior Pee Wee championship game is at 4 p.m. The Pee Wee championship starts at 6 p.m. The third-place games are at 10 a.m. and noon. In the Unlimited Division for players ages 11-14, the Olympians defeated Evergreen on Sunday for the championship.
Southwest Washington Pop Warner this year merged with two Portland Pop Warner organizations to form the Greater Northwest Conference. It had scheduled its Mitey Mite Bowl for ages 7-9 for Saturday, but has not found an available field to play those games, according to Greater Northwest Conference president Tony Asciutto.
