Two dogs and one cat died in a West Hazel Dell house fire early Sunday, according to Clark County Fire District 6.
Firefighters were dispatched to a reported fire at 411 N.W. 86th St., said Chief Jerry Green with Fire District 6. Firefighters arrived a few minutes later and found the main floor and basement of the home engulfed in flames, he said.
About 18 firefighters with District 6 and the Vancouver Fire Department responded and found two dogs and one cat dead inside the house, Green said. There were reports of “numerous” animals inside the home and it is unclear how many made it out safe, he said.
Firefighters attempted to resuscitate at least one animal.
The fire caused an estimated $265,419 worth of damage to half of the 2,800 square-foot house, said Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Curtis Evanson. The fire damage was primarily on the main floor, while the basement had smoke and water damage, he said. The cause is unknown and Evanson is still investigating.
