Police are looking for a man who drove an allegedly stolen Jeep Cherokee north on southbound Interstate 205 before abandoning the vehicle on the hillside and fleeing on foot Wednesday evening.

Details were sketchy.

Around 6 p.m. a dark green Jeep Cherokee with Oregon plates drove north on a southbound ramp to I-205 and continued driving north on the freeway, according to emergency radio traffic monitored by The Columbian.

He abandoned the Jeep on the hillside and bailed out of the car at the Northeast 18th Street overpass, heading west on foot.

The man supposedly has blond hair and was wearing a black jacket and carrying a red duffel bag at the time.

Police set up a perimeter to the west of I-205 to try and catch him. They also alerted the local Walmart in case he tried to duck in there and blend in. Although police searched several yards, the man was still at large at The Columbian’s press time.
