First Place — The neighborhood garden is headed to bed for the year, but the latest First Place Neighborhood Association newsletter sums up a great growing season — “with more sun than we have enjoyed since we started the garden! We grew a prodigious amount of vegetables for our own use, for the neighborhood bed and for local food pantries. This year, we donated over 250 pounds of produce to local food pantries. That includes fresh herbs and produce for the senior lunch program at Firstenburg (Community Center), and produce that our neighbor Steve Fish took to the food pantry managed by his church.” Fish belongs to Vancouver Vineyard Church, 1207 East Reserve St., which runs One Life food pantry.
