HILLSBORO, Ore. — The baseball team that had attempted to move to Vancouver will be known as the Hillsboro Hops.

The club revealed the nickname Tuesday via Facebook and Twitter.

The minor league affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks recently moved to Hillsboro from Yakima and will play in a 4,500-seat stadium that’s under construction.

The relocation marks a return of professional baseball to the Portland area. It had been without a team since the Portland Beavers left after the 2010 season.

The Hops start their season in June and will play in the same league as the Eugene Emeralds and Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.

The team initially tried to move to Vancouver, but abandoned those plans after a deal to build a new stadium at Clark College fell through.
