A woman was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in the Walnut Grove area on Monday afternoon.

The crash was reported at 1:36 p.m. at the intersection of Northeast 63rd Street and Northeast 72nd Avenue, according to emergency dispatch logs.

The woman, identified by the sheriff’s office as Shauna Casse, 39, was out jogging with her dog when she was hit in the intersection, said Capt. Dave James, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman. It is unclear if Casse was in the crosswalk, James said.

The driver of the car, Mary Krueger, stopped and was cooperating with deputies, sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Fred Neiman said.

Vancouver firefighters who were training at Station 5, which is at the corner of the intersection, responded and were able to provide immediate medical assistance. Casse was sent to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with what could have been life-threatening injuries, James said. PeaceHealth said she was not on the patient directory.

She had a “traumatic head injury,” Neiman said. Deputies checked with the hospital and were told Casse would make a full recovery, Neiman said.

Casse’s dog was uninjured and made it home by the time firefighters called her husband to notify him of the accident, James said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating.
