Try This: Terror-bly fun weekend

Get your spook on at the Confront Your Fears Haunted House. With three haunts filled with computerized fiends, horrors and thrills, visitors can tour Apocalypse, a Mayan walkthrough adventure; Circus Insane 3D, a menacing 3-D circus; and Morbid Nightmares, a labyrinth of terror. The Carn Evil also will offer visitors thrill rides, games and family Halloween fun.

2. Bumps in the night

In the thriller “Wait Until Dark,” a sinister con man and his two thugs track down a mysterious doll that has made its way to the apartment of Sam and his blind wife, Susy. When Sam is framed for murder by the plotting men, Susy finds herself in a deadly game of cat and mouse.

3. Surreal duets

You can take in a duet performance by pianists Timothy and Nancy LeRoi Nickel, who are also known as One Piano-Four Hands. They will provide a live accompaniment — written by avant-garde composer Erik Satie — at a screening of the 1924 French Surrealist film “Entr’acte.” Along with piano duets, they will play selections by classical composers Schubert, Dvorak and Gade.

4. Gather the flock

BirdFest will bring out the best of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge as the fall migrations bring in feathered friends of all kinds. Visitors can take Audubon-guided bird and plant tours, discover the area’s natural and cultural history at the Cathlapotle Plankhouse, visit the birders marketplace, eat at a traditional salmon bake, attend a live bird show, or participate in family crafts and activities. The event also includes bluegrass music by the Mandolin Band at 2 p.m. Saturday the Old Liberty Theater in Ridgefield.

5. ‘Argo’ captures attention and thrills

In 1979 Tehran, Iranian revolutionaries storm the U.S. embassy and take 52 Americans hostage. Amidst the chaos, six Americans manage to escape and find refuge, but time is running out until they’re discovered. CIA specialist Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) proposes to rescue them with a risky plan: pose as a Hollywood film producer and use the six as his crew. “Argo” is rated R.
