A Vancouver man committed suicide Saturday afternoon in the main parking lot of The Grotto in Portland, according to a bulletin from the Portland Police Bureau.
At 4:37 p.m., East Precinct officers found Lee Schrom, 59, dead in his car in the parking lot in the 8300 block of Northeast Sandy Boulevard. He apparently left a suicide note at his home in Vancouver, the bulletin said.
The cause of death was unknown.
According to The Columbian’s archives, Schrom was one of seven children and volunteered at the Salvation Army’s Stop Hunger Warehouse.
