Clayton Frank’s 24-yard touchdown pass to Daunte Coleman in the second overtime gave the Chieftains the lead, and David Snuffin’s fourth-down sack ended the game, giving Columbia River a thrilling 27-20 win at Kelso on Friday in Kelso.
The Chieftains, who led 20-6 after the first quarter, had to survive a point-after attempt with 32 seconds left in the game. And then they had to hold off the Hilanders who had a first down from the 1-yard line in the first overtime.
Kelso’s Tyler Jackson scored on a 3-yard run to tie the game toward the end of regulation, capping an 82-yard drive. But the extra point was off to the right.
The Chieftains, with that extra bit of life, took advantage. The defense stuffed the Hilanders in both overtime periods.
