Clark County’s waste collection program has earned special recognition from the North American Hazardous Materials Management Association. The organization recently honored the county’s Environmental Services department with a Long-standing Program Excellence award, county officials announced this week.
The county’s hazardous waste program began in 1986, then expanded with the opening of a household hazardous waste facility in 1992. The same year, curbside collecting began for oil and household batteries, according to the county.
The county now holds frequent public collection events. The next is planned for 9 a.m. this Saturday at the operations facility at 4700 N.E. 78th St. Participants can bring hazardous household waste, block foam and some electronics, according to the county.
Clark County’s three transfer stations also accept hazardous waste on certain days. More information about the county’s waste program, and how to dispose of various materials, is available at www.recyclinga-z.com.
