Lewis-Clark State College senior Kelsey Klettke was named Frontier Conference Female Runner of the Week for the second time this season after placing seventh out of 199 runners at the Charles Bowles Invitational on Saturday in Salem, Ore.
Klettke, a 2010 NAIA All-American who did not compete last year because of injury, completed the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 18 minutes, 6 seconds.
The Prairie High School graduate also garnered the conference honor for the week of Aug. 27 to Sept. 3.
The Warriors, ranked No. 11 in NAIA, finished fourth in the Gold Race of the event hosted by Willamette University.
Klettke had a huge drop in time from the previous weekend, according to the school website lcsc.edu/athletics on what LCSC coach Mike Collins described as generally a slower course.
“She started off by getting out in front and was right in there with the seven or so girls that pushed the pace,” Collins said of Klettke. “She lost a few spots in the last quarter-mile, but she did really well.”
Also in the women’s Gold Race: Hockinson High School graduate Shannon Porter, running unattached, was 26th in 18:50; Meagan Governor (La Center) of Northwest University was 36th in 19:13; Shelby Beaudoin (Prairie) of Lewis and Clark was 112th in 20:56; and Kristina Cupp (Vancouver Christian) of Concordia was 113th in 20:57.
In the men’s 8-kilometer (5-mile) Gold Race: Roman Kirkov (Union) of Concordia was 11th in 25:15; Kody Shriver (Kalama) of Eastern Oregon was 33rd in 25:38; Matt Porter (Hockinson) of Northwest University was 89th in 26:35; Nick Wilson (Columbia River) of Concordia was 142nd in 27:35; and John Trimble (Hudson’s Bay) of Corban was 181st in 28:30.
In the women’s Cardinal Race: Lynelle Decker (Mountain View) of Seattle Pacific was 42nd in 19:07; Jadyn Gourley (Hockinson) of Northwest Nazarene was 77th in 19:31; and Katherine Hendricks (Skyview) of Portland State was 142nd in 20:28.
In the men’s Cardinal Race: Cody Barton (Ridgefield) of Portland was 8th in 25:18; and Shane Geiger (Camas) of Portland was 62nd in 26:37.
The Cardinal races were for ahletes representing NCAA schools, with all other runners in the Gold races. The meet featured more than 900 entrants representing teams from 10 states and one Canadian province — 37 four-year colleges and universities, six junior colleges, three club teams, and unattached athletes — running at Bush’s Pasture Park.
Dodge sets record in Montana Tech loss
Southern Oregon University sophomore quarterback Austin Dodge was 42 of 56 passing for 384 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-45 double-overtime loss Saturday at Montana Tech.
The Skyview High School graduate broke the SOU record for completions and tied his career-high in attempts. The previous completions record was 36.
