Girls basketball: Woodland 44, Ridgefield 40

The Beavers held off a fourth-quarter rally to beat the visiting Spudders in the season opener for both teams.

Woodland led by as many as 10 points before Ridgefield rallied to within one point by hitting three 3-point shots and a three-point play. But the Beavers stretched the lead back to seven.

Sidra Malik had 12 points and seven steals for Woodland. Jessica Flanagan contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Shannon Boyld led Ridgefield with 14 points.
