A stretch of state Highway 14 will shift to a straighter alignment east of Washougal starting today, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Crews have spent recent weeks excavating dirt and rock from embankments to build a new route for the highway north of its previous alignment. The result will smooth out several curves, providing a safer, more straight highway between Marble Road and Belle Center Road in western Skamania County, according to WSDOT.
Workers planned to finish paving work late this week. Highway traffic will shift to the new alignment by 5 p.m. today, according to WSDOT.
Additional paving and striping work will continue next spring. The entire project is slated for completion in fall 2013.
