When Kaydee Williams and Jacob Griffith drove on down to California to celebrate their graduation from Clark College, the couple didn’t realize that she’d also get to “come on down” on the game show “The Price is Right.”
Williams, 22, of Vancouver, got free tickets for the show by signing up online when the couple were planning their trip.
And after a morning of standing in line at the studio, she and Griffith, 23, who lives in Clackamas County, Ore., were selected to join the audience for the pre-recorded show, which airs at 10 a.m. today on CBS.
“People think it’s a hard process to get on, but it’s not,” Williams said. “It’s easy. I’d encourage anyone to go.”
Getting to watch was one thing, but Williams said she was really surprised when show host Drew Carey called her name as a contestant with the show’s classic tagline, “Come on down.”
“It was like a two-hour long adrenaline rush,” Williams said.
The process of preparation and filming actually took about four hours, but all of it was fun, she added.
Williams is holding her tongue about how she did on the show. She’s planning a party with friends and family to watch it and doesn’t want to give away the surprise.
“I wish I could screen it first,” she said. “I haven’t seen it yet.”
The couple taped the show in July.
The time between taping and air date can vary from a few weeks to a few months, said Courtney Smith, a spokeswoman for the show.
“All of our episodes are taped in advance,” Smith said. “Some airing now were filmed in the summer.”
About 300 people get to participate in each audience, and the show typically records two episodes a day twice a week.
“Contestants usually show up pretty early in the morning to participate in the show,” Smith said. “There’s usually a good line. Some show up as early as 6 a.m. But we give them lots of coffee to keep warm and stay alert.”
Contestants can’t compete in the show again for 10 years, but they can join the audience as a spectator. Williams said she’d enjoy going back to watch, though, and maybe see Griffith get selected as a contestant next time around.
The episode will be archived online for about two weeks after it airs on The Price Is Right.
Williams said she hopes people from Clark County will tune in to check out her appearance.
