Amy-Eloise Neale, who won three cross-country state championships in four years for Glacier Peak High School of Snohomish, will run next year for the University of Washington.
Neale captured the Class 3A state title Saturday in Pasco. She won state titles as a freshman and sophomore before finishing second behind Katie Knight of Spokane’s North Central as a junior.
Knight also committed to the Huskies, according to The (Everett) Herald.
Neale has competed in several high-profile races against Camas sophomore Alexa Efraimson, with both of them ranking among the nation’s top high school runners.
At the Adidas Dream Mile in New York in June, Efraimson finished fourth and Neale was seventh.
At the Nike Elite mile run in conjunction with the U.S. Olympic Trials in July, Neale finished second and Efraimson was sixth.
Last spring, Neale shattered a 29-year-old meet mark while winning the 3A girls 800 meters in the track and field state championships — after running step-for-step with Efraimson down the stretch.
Neale has won five state track titles, with her senior season still ahead.
• Rushing record falls — Eisenhower running back Branden Curtis set a Washington high school record for rushing yards Friday, gaining 488 yards on 47 carries.
Curtis also scored four touchdowns in the Cadets’ season-ending 34-13 win over rival Davis.
The previous record was 471 yards by Danny Wilm of Steilacoom in 2003.
