A computer glitch or human error? Not sure, but the brackets for this week’s high school state tournaments are a bit confusing, as of Monday night anyway.
The state girls soccer playoffs can begin as early as today. It appears most of the Clark County teams will play Wednesday, though.
In football, Woodland will play Friday night, while the four teams from Clark County will play Saturday.
Not that any fan could easily find the wheres and the whens on the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s website.
As of Monday night, for example, the 3A football bracket had Columbia River playing Friday night. Not true, according to Columbia River. The Chieftains will host Kennedy Catholic at 4 p.m. Saturday at Kiggins Bowl.
Expectations are that the brackets will be updated today by the WIAA.
The Columbian confirmed Monday that La Center soccer will be playing Seattle Academy at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kalama High School in the 1A playoffs.
In 2A soccer, the WIAA site has Hockinson traveling to Renton to take on Lindbergh at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In the 3A bracket, Columbia River soccer is confirmed at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kiggins Bowl against Seattle Prep.
In 4A soccer, Union will host Skyline at 7 p.m. Wednesday at McKenzie Stadium. (This is a change from the original time of 6:30 p.m.). Camas is traveling to Moses Lake for a 5 p.m. Wednesday match. Neither of those 4A girls soccer matches was updated on the WIAA site as of Monday night.
Woodland football will travel to Bellingham on Friday for a 7 p.m. game against Mount Baker in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs. La Center, meanwhile, will host Meridian at 1 p.m. Saturday at Battle Ground’s District Stadium. Those two games are confirmed and noted on the WIAA site.
Again, Columbia River football is playing at 4 p.m. Saturday, not Friday, in the first round of the 3A playoffs.
Union is confirmed as going to Gonzaga Prep in Spokane for a 1 p.m. Saturday game in the 4A football playoffs. Camas is home Saturday night, a 6 p.m. game against Arlington.
The state volleyball tournaments are this week, too.
Union and Camas open Friday afternoon in the 4A tournament at St. Martin’s University in Lacey.
Prairie and Columbia River have morning openers in the 3A tourney, also at St. Martin’s.
King’s Way Christian and Woodland are in Yakima for the 1A state tournament. Both open play with morning matches.
The state swimming championships are Friday and Saturday in Federal Way.
