Monica Bottelberghe won two individual events and broke the Kelso High School pool record in the 200-yard freestyle, leading the Columbia River girls swimming team to win at the 3A district meet.
Bottelberghe won the 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 54.52 seconds, breaking her own pool record set two years ago. She outdistanced the second-best finisher by 23 seconds. Bottelberghe also won the 100 freestyle in 53.06 seconds.
Carly Cannon of Hudson’s Bay also won two events, winning the 100 butterfly (1:01.35) and 100 backstroke (1:01.48). Dariya Samiee of Mountain View won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.50) and the 500 freestyle (5:20.19).
Other individual district champions were Columbia River’s Krista Helt (200 IM 2:30.44) and Mountain View’s Nicole Woodbury (50 free, 26.98).
Columbia River posted 371 points to outdistances Mountain View’s 273 in the team standings.
Sanders shines at 2A district — Hockinson’s Julia Sanders won two events at the 2A district meet in Olympia.
Sanders won the 200 individual medley in 2:09.18 and the 100 butterfly in 58.28 seconds.
Seton Catholic’s Ada Beale won the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.80, while Hockinson’s Bailee Christensen placed second in the 100 backstroke.
Volleyball
River claims bi-district championship — Evi Wilson had 13 kills and Sophie Kuehl added 19 digs as Columbia River swept past Bonney Lake to capture the Class 3A bi-district tournament title in Auburn.
River beat Bonney Lake 25-19, 25-22, 25-13 in the championship match after beating host Auburn Mountainview 25-16, 27-25, 25-21 in the semifinals.
Prairie lost twice to finish fourth, but will still advance to next week’s state tournament.
Camas second in 4A bi-district — Camas beat Emerald Ridge of Puyallup 25-21, 21-25, 25-13, 23-25, 15-11 in a semifinal match before losing to Bellarmine Prep in three sets in the championship match of the 4A bi-district tournament in Kent. Union placed fourth.
King’s Way Christian is runner-up — Erin Sprowls had 11 kills and McKenzie Davis had 23 assists as King’s Way lost to Castle Rock in the title match of the 1A district tournament. Woodland beat White Salmon to clinch a state berth.
