Anna Panebianco and Julieann Reed each won two individual events and were on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team as the Camas girls swimming team beat Union for the district team title Friday at the 4A district meet at Propstra Aquatic Center.
Camas held off Union 366-344 for the team title. All event winners qualified for the state meet next week in Federal Way.
Panebianco won the 200 free (2:01.20) and 100 backstroke (1:00.53), while Reed won the 50 (25.66) and 100 free (55.99) events.
Union’s Andrea Young won the 200 individual medley (2:12.72) and 100 breaststoke (1:08.42) and was on two winning relays.
Union’s Alice Chang won the 100 butterfly (1:01.22), and teammate Hannah Pickett won the 500 free (5:48.67).
4A volleyball
Camas rallied from a two-game deficit, knocked off the reigning Class 4A state champions, and clinched a berth in the state tournament Friday at the bi-district volleyball tournament in Kentwood.
Union also won twice Friday, assuring itself of a spot alongside Camas in next week’s state tourney in Lacey.
Camas (27-3) defeated Olympia 23-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 15-9 in its second match of the day, advancing to the final four of the bi-district tournament. That clinched a ninth straight trip to the 16-team state tournament for the Papermakers.
Brindl Langley had 24 kills and 21 digs for Camas, which also got 14 kills from Lauren Harris.
Earlier Friday, the Papermakers defeated Kentridge 25-21, 25-14, 25-14 behind 10 kills from Natalia Zea.
Camas returns to the court at noon Saturday to face Emerald Ridge in the semifinal round.
On the other side of the Class 4A bi-district tournament bracket, Union defeated Rogers of Puyallup and Auburn Riverside to reach the semifinals and wrap up a state berth.
Setter Sammy Savage led the Titans with 84 assists while Megan LaFond slammed 30 kills.
Union will play a semifinal match against Bellarmine Prep of Tacoma at noon today at Kentwood.
Class 3A volleyball
Columbia River and Prairie clinched spots in the next week’s state tournament with victories Friday at the bi-district tournament at Auburn Mountainview High School.
Columbia River swept two matches, advancing to the final four and wrapping up one of the six state berths from the bi-district tournament.
Evi Wilson had nine kills and four blocks in a 25-10, 25-19, 25-16 first-round victory over Shelton. She added 15 kills in a 25-15, 25-16, 25-9 win over Enumclaw in the quarterfinals.
Prairie, which received a bye in the first round, reached the semifinals with a 19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 26-24 win over Timberline of Lacey. Karlee Lubenow led the way with 23 kills.
Columbia River and Prairie both play semifinal matches at noon today at Auburn Riverside. The championship match is slated for 4 p.m.
