Prep roundup: Hockinson soccer stays alive in district

Battan's goal helps Hawks beat Ridgefield

Kavita Battan scored the match’s lone goal on an assist from Gabrielle Burrell as the Hockinson girls soccer team beat Ridgefield 1-0 to stay alive for a Class 2A state playoff berth.

Hockinson advances to play Black Hills of Tumwater on Saturday for the No. 3 seed from District 4. Ridgefield’s season ends.

La Center 1, Elma 0 — The Wildcats captured the 1A district championship and will be the No. 1 seed to the state playoffs next week with the win Thursday.

Volleyball

Ridgefield 3, Aberdeen 0 — Korrie Stephenson had 15 kills, six aces, four blocks and four digs, and Claire James added 23 assists, eight digs and six aces as Ridgefield swept past Aberdeen in the first round of the Class 2A district tournament in Longview. The set scores were 25-8, 25-14, 25-15.

Ridgefield will face Capital of Olympia in a district semifinal match Saturday for a state berth. If the Spudders fall Saturday, they will get a second chance to earn a state berth through the consolation bracket.

Shannon Boyle added 11 kills, nine digs, four blocks and three aces for the Spudders.

Swimming

4A district is today — The Class 4A district girls swimming championships will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Propstra Aquatic Center in Vancouver. Admission to the meet is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students with ASB. Children under 5 are free.
