Salmon Creek — Three Vancouver teachers were recognized for their service to the Mountain Host Program at the Mount Hood Ski Patrol’s annual awards banquet May 19. Marilyn Hanson, Chinook Elementary School first-grade teacher, was honored as Mountain Host Supervisor of the Year. Jennifer Beaman, a Felida Elementary School fifth-grade teacher, and Starlet Heitz, literacy specialist at Felida, were named Mountain Host Apprentices of the Year. All three women were recognized not only for fulfilling their responsibilities in exemplary fashion, but also for their care when faced with tragedy. While volunteering together, they participated in the search for an overdue teenager. After learning that the young woman had died, they stayed at the ski resort until 2 a.m. to provide comfort to the girl’s family. Their compassionate actions are the hallmark of the members of the Mt. Hood Ski Patrol. To find out more about becoming a Mt.
