A 26-year-old Vancouver man has been arrested for allegedly leading Clark County sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase early Tuesday and then crashing into a barrier on southbound Interstate 5 north of the 39th Street/Main Street exit.

Justin Waser was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants and attempting to elude law enforcement. Waser sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the collision and was treated at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, according to the sheriff’s office. His condition was unknown Tuesday. PeaceHealth could not provide any information about the patient. No one else was injured in the collision.

Emergency dispatchers received a report around 6 a.m. of an alleged DUI driver leaving La Center in a silver Ford Focus with Michigan plates. A deputy in a marked vehicle attempted to stop the car on southbound I-5, south of the 319th Street overpass. The car continued south at a speed of more than 90 mph, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies attempted to stop the car with a spike strip near the 99th Street exit on I-5 but were unsuccessful. The driver began passing motorists on the shoulder of the road, nearly colliding with several vehicles.

Near the 39th Street/Main Street overpass of Interstate 5, the suspect vehicle spun out of control and stalled. The vehicle slammed into the center freeway barrier and came to a stop north of the 39th Street overpass.

Washington State Patrol assisted in the pursuit.
