What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:
1
We have to give it up for our neighbors to the north.
On Friday, The Daily News in Longview came away with one of the more memorable baseball photos you’ll ever see.
Visit www.tdn.com for the whole sequence of photos of Lower Columbia College outfielder Derrick Salberg completely stretched out for what looks to be a home run ball. (SPOILER: He catches it.)
Oh yeah, did we mention this catch came with a runner on and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and the score 4-2?
Said Salberg to TDN: “I was waiting for the bullpen pitchers to tell me I was getting close to the fence. Thank God I didn’t run into the fence, and I’ve got some hops.”
Thanks to some social media efforts (Twitter and whatnot), the folks at ESPN got wind of “The Catch” and it became the No. 1 play of the day on their late SportsCenter broadcast.

There might be more to it than Robert Griffin III just getting his “III” on an NFL jersey for the first time.
Think marketing. Think adidas.
Noted Paul Lukas of Uni Watch to Yahoo Sports: “… the Roman numeral III can also be viewed as three stripes — which happens to be the visual signature of adidas, which signed Griffin to a big endorsement contract back in February. In fact, Uni Watch suspects Griffin chose adidas over Nike specifically in large part because of the potential marketing synergies between the Roman numeral and the stripes.”
