PUYALLUP — Mountain View and Eastmont staged a shootout on Saturday morning in the match for third place in Class 3A boys soccer.

Then the match at Sparks Stadium was decided with a penalty-kick tiebreaker.

The Wildcats from East Wenatchee got three saves from goalkeeper Daniel Romero to beat the Thunder after the teams played to a 5-5 draw over 90 minutes. Eastmont won the tiebreaker 3-1.

Mountain View, which lost to Bainbridge in Friday’s semifinals, took home the fourth-place trophy.

Foster Langsdorf the first two goals for Mountain View and Peter Prescott the third, all in a first half that ended in a 3-3 tie.

Regulation ended at 5-5 after a furious finish that saw Mountain View tie the match twice in the last five minutes. Isaac Strever made it 4-4 with 5:04 left. Eastmont took a 5-4 lead a minute later, then Marshall Hartley made it 5-5 with 3:02 remaining by heading in a cross from Ngawang Choephel.

Ten minutes of overtime produced several high-quality scoring chances for each team.

Mountain View’s Langsdorf converted his penalty kick to open the tiebreaker, but Romero made diving stops on the next three Thunder kicks. Eastmont made three of four attempts.
