Oregon Department of Transportation officials have announced a modified schedule for closure of the southbound span of the Interstate 5 Bridge.
The bridge will be open and closed intermittently starting Thursday night, May 24, as repair crews conduct repeated bridge lifts. Traffic delays of up to 20 minutes are possible. Work will begin around 11 p.m. and will last until 5 a.m. Friday.
On Friday night, the span will close to all traffic at 11 p.m. and will not reopen until 7 a.m. Saturday.
The closures are due to ongoing repairs to the rollers that guide the drawbridge’s counterweight. After this series of repairs, more closures are likely, according to ODOT. Schedules will be determined later. The northbound span is not affected and will remain open as usual.
