Talking Points: Triple Crown talk begins

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

Only when there’s a Triple Crown possibility on the line does the general public notice horse racing.

And that’s what we have now.

What we really have is three weeks of “will he” or “won’t he” win the Belmont Stakes.

I’ll Have Another probably won’t comment.

Already out of the block is probably one of many columns against a Triple Crown happening for I’ll Have Another.

From Pat Forde at Yahoo Sports: “Given the fragile nature of modern thoroughbreds, the current demands of the Triple Crown seem too much. Almost nobody races their top-dollar horses three times in five weeks anymore, because the current breed doesn’t handle that racing load well.”

If you work on the floor crew at Staples Center in Los Angeles, this would probably be the weekend you’d want to have off.

Friday’s Lakers-Thunder game was the first of four second-round NBA playoff games in just over 48 hours at Staples Center, also the site of the NHL’s Western Conference finals between and Kings and Coyotes on Thursday and today. The Spurs played the Clippers on Saturday afternoon with the Thunder and Lakers on Saturday night.

To top it off, just outside the arena today is the finish to cycling’s Tour of California.
