David Jones is getting ready to roll. And everyone is invited to see him off.
At 10 a.m. Saturday, Jones will begin a 12,000-mile, clockwise bicycle journey around the edges of the nation. He’ll depart from homeless shelter Share House, 1115 E. 13th St., in downtown Vancouver.
That’s because Share, Vancouver’s chief provider of services and shelter to the hungry and homeless, is the point of his journey. Jones, a former Share board member, means to raise money for the cause as he pedals. Those expenses include video equipment — because Jones plans to conduct interviews and post them online. “I want to reveal in a very personal way what Americans think and feel about their country,” he says on his website. “I’ll be conducting interviews over these 12,000 miles and asking questions about each individual’s American experience, what they think and feel. And what are their challenges and solutions.” He’s even recruited Lisa Cicala, a Portland filmmaker and vice president of the Oregon Media Production Association, to rework his video footage into a feature documentary film.
