Weather Eye: It will be cooler, but dry spell should continue

We are certainly on a roll with the delightful weather and I have NO complaints in my email either! We managed number six in a row of decent weekends and despite a cooling trend and more cloudiness at times the rest of the week it appears we will tack up number seven this coming weekend.

Portland set a record high temperature Monday with 88 degrees as of 5 p.m., breaking the old record of 87 degrees set in 1973. Vancouver surpassed that by one degree with a high of 89. I noticed Sunday night it was quite warm, running in the 70s near midnight.

A weak marine push moved into the southern Willamette Valley and lowered temperatures to the 70s on Monday and that is what we will enjoy the rest of the week. Should I say perfect? I notice my grass is beginning to dry out so time to get out the sprinkler, can you believe that?

We are officially below average now on the rainfall and almost up to normal on the average mean temperature. Quite a turnaround from a short while ago. Looking at the long-range forecast models, while there’s a chance of rain the middle of next week, we may squeak by the last two weeks of May with little rainfall. Even the long holiday weekend over Memorial Day looks dry and very warm.

Oh, what is our total monthly rainfall to date for Vancouver? It is 1.18 inches with the last measurable rain on May 4.
