Community notebook: Camas Rugby reaches state title match

The high school rugby season wraps up on May 19 with trophy matches at Delta Park in north Portland, including a second-division championship match involving Camas Rugby.

In semifinal action on Saturday at Delta Park, the Battle Ground Bulls fell to Eastside U19 in the Oregon High School Rugby Division 1 tournament. Eastside won 64-22 at Delta Park.

The Bulls, with players primarily from Battle Ground area high schools, will play for third place at noon on May 19 against North Clackamas. That game starts at noon at field No. 7 at Delta Park.

Eastside will play Barbarians from Beaverton at 3 p.m. May 19 for the top division championship.

In Division 2, the Camas boys rugby team will play Lincoln/Westside for the state championship at 9 a.m. on May 19 at Delta Park field No. 3. Camas defeated Columbia County 38-15 in the semifinals.

Also in Division 2, the Bulls second team will play for seventh place against Pendleton at 1:30 p.m. on Delta field No. 5.In girls rugby, Battle Ground will play Reynolds for third place after losing 34-22 on Saturday to the Lady Barbarians in a Division 1 semifinal match. The girls third-place match starts at 9 a.m. on May 19 at field No. 7 at Delta Park.

Soccer teams fall in state cup

One Vancouver Timbers girls team lost in the championship match, and another fell in the semifinals as Washington U.S. Youth Soccer Championship Cup tournaments concluded at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.

The Championship Cup is the state tournament for the highest level of competition. Winners advance to the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regionals.

In the under-17 age division for girls born in 1994, Eastside FC defeated the VUSA Timbers Red 2-0 for the championship on Sunday. The Vancouver team beat Northwest Nationals Blue 2-0 in a semifinal match played on Saturday.

Playing for the 1994-born Timbers were: Kavita Battan, Milla Benedetti, Aurora Bodenhamer, Ellie Boon, Jamie Carter, Bianca Caruso, Jocelyn Giammalva, Carlee Maluenda, Nicole Mattson, Payton Meisner, Emily Ponce, Maiah Sharma, Allison Sprecher, Lauren Uhl and Alyssa Wenrick.

Eastside FC also defeated a Timbers team in the girls under-15 tournament, ousting VUSA 2-0 in a Saturday semifinal.Playing for the 1996-born Timbers were: Abigail Engel, Sarah Ferguson, Melissa Foster, Heidi Fronk, Laura Gougeon, Taylor Hallquist, Emily Heaton, Delaney Lindahl, Victoria Lindstrom, Rebecca Mattson, Paige Olinger, Natalie Reynolds, Mariah Roggow, Sydnee Smith, Sarah Tennyson, Jordyn Voyles and Nicolette Winchell.

Lacrosse playoffs for King’s Way

The King’s Way boys lacrosse team faces Skyline of Sammamish in a state playoff match at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Columbia River High School football stadium.

The winner of that match will advance to play a state quarterfinal match at Issaquah at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The King’s Way team, which includes players from high schools around Clark County, plays in the top level of the Washington Boys Lacrosse Association. The Knights finished tied for fifth place in their division with a 9-4 league mark, and are 9-9 in all matches this spring.

King’s Way and Skyline (12-7) have not played each other this season.King’s Way split its final two regular season matches. On Friday, the Knights won 14-9 at Puyallup, with Koda Wataka-Robinson scoring five goals. On Saturday at Bainbridge, King’s Way lost 11-10. King’s Way was led by Columbia River junior Clayton Frank’s three goals, while Camas junior Jack Beall and Camas senior Jason Klein each scored two.

Shooters head to nationals

Four shooters from the Vancouver Rifle and Pistol Club will participate in the 2012 USA Shooting National Championship and Smallbore Olympic Team Trials in June at Fort Benning, Ga. Jamie Carlson, Colton Sybouts, Kyle Ueltschi and Spencer Frasier will be shooting the 10-meter air rifle event and the three-position 5-meter smallbore contest.

On June 1, the Clark County Competitive Shooters is holding a spaghetti dinner and silent auction to raise funds for the national competitors’ travel and entry expenses. The event is at 40 Et 8 Bingo Hall. Tickets are $15. Anyone interested in attending, providing an item for the auction, or making a donation can contact Amanda Ueltschi at 360-687-7462.
