Two local dentists are challenging local residents to beat them to the finish line during Saturday’s Student Stride for Education.

The fundraising event for the Washougal Schools Foundation will be held at Washougal High School’s Fishback Stadium. Kindergarten, first- and second-grade students will run a 1.5K course, while third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students will run a 2K. Middle and high school students and adults will take part in the 5K run or walk or as volunteers. The final heat of the day is The Dash, a race for the “pre-kindy” crowd — just one lap around the track.

Drs. Dave and Tom Stinchfield of Discovery Dental, in Washougal, are challenging participants in the 5K run to “Beat the Docs.” Both men, avid runners, will be wearing Stride shirts with a red target on the back. Any runner who can pass both doctors and cross the finish line ahead of them will be rewarded.

The event registration fee is $10 per person, which includes a T-shirt, race-day medal and finish line refreshments. Deadline to guarantee a shirt was April 26, but runners can register up to and including race day. Registration forms are available at all Washougal schools, Discovery Dental, 2614 “E” St., in Washougal, and at www.discoverydentistry.com.

The 5k run/walk begins at 8 a.m., followed by the kindergartners at 9:15, first-graders at 9:30, second-graders at 9:45, third-graders at 10, fourth-graders at 10:15, and fifth-graders at 10:30. The Dash begins at 10:45.
