Fire destroyed a barn Saturday in a rural area east of Battle Ground, according to Fire District 3.

The fire was reported at 1:37 p.m. at 25130 N.E. 239th Circle, in a hilly, wooded area north of Venersborg.

Units from Fire District 3 and Clark County Fire & Rescue arrived to find the 1,300-square-foot barn fully involved in flame and partly collapsed, said Fire District 3 Capt. Jason Mansfield.

Firefighters took a defensive attack, extinguishing a small grass fire and containing the fire to the barn, which was a total loss. No other structures on the property were threatened, Mansfield said.

The barn was owned by Ferdinand and Ellen Kahler, according to county property records.

Information on the cause was not available Saturday. Investigators from the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office were on scene, Mansfield said.
