What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

For a franchise that had Tom Seaver and Nolan Ryan, the New York Mets have never had a no-hitter.
The streak stretched to 8,000 games on Friday.
Jose Reyes has tripled leading off the first inning against his former team, cinching the milestone for non-achievement by Mets.
And though the San Diego Padres are also on the short list of no no-hitters, the Mets’ 50-year drought is baseball’s longest such streak.
Johan Santana’s bid to end the streak Friday lasted only four pitches against the Miami Marlins.
The Mets have thrown 35 one-hitters, most recently by R.A. Dickey on Aug. 13, 2010. Twice Seaver pitched a one-hitter, with the lone blemish each time a ninth-inning single. Ryan threw a record seven no-hitters, but none for New York.

The fickle game of golf reared its ugly head at Sawgrass on Friday.
Among the big-name players who won’t be around this weekend for THE PLAYERS (and why exactly is this CAPITALIZED?) Championship is Rory McIlroy.
“I just need to try and get the hang of his golf course somehow,” McIlroy told reporters Friday at TPC Sawgrass after a 4-over 76, well over the cut line. “I just find it pretty difficult. But, yeah, just one of those weeks.”
He arrived in Florida after losing in a playoff at Quail Hollow.
“It’s unbelievable. I shoot 14 under last week and I feel like I hit it just the same this week. And I’m going home. So it’s just one of those things. But I’m not getting down on myself about it.”
Portland’s Ben Crane can also relate. He was two shots off the lead after the first round and came back with a 78 to miss the cut by one shot.
Then there’s Tiger Woods. He was well off the pace Thursday and made the cut thanks to a 68 on Friday.
