Work continues on bell tower at Esther Short Park

Crews are continuing to work to repair two features at Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver.

Last week, the city announced work would temporarily close the water feature at the park.

The bell tower is also fenced off so crews can tune bells and do maintenance work on clocks. Work should be done by the weekend, if not sooner, said Barbara Ayers, city spokeswoman.

Crews are working to make a transfer platform at the top of the tower so city crews can perform maintenance. It should eliminate the city’s need to hire someone to service the tower, Ayers said.

The water feature will be off for at least another week, she said.
