The first stop on the way to The Olympic Club in San Francisco begins today at Vancouver’s Royal Oaks Country Club. Royal Oaks is one of 109 courses hosting an 18-hole U.S. Open local qualifier.

There will be 100 golfers competing at Royal Oaks for six spots that advance to the sectional round. The top finishers in the sectionals earn a place in the U.S. Open, June 14-17.

Among the competitors scheduled to play at Royal Oaks are 2006 NCAA champion Jonathan Moore, formerly of Vancouver, and University of Oregon head men’s golf coach Casey Martin. University of Washington golfers Ty Chambers and Gerrit Chambers, both Hockinson High grads, are also in the field.

Tee times begin at 8 a.m. with the last group at 10:40 a.m. Golfers will start from the first and 10th tees.

The course will be open to the public, and there is no charge to attend.
