State Rep. Ann Rivers, R-La Center, was named this week to the state’s Road User Assessment Steering Committee, which will examine new revenue options for the state’s transportation system.

The committee will include three other state lawmakers and representatives from other stakeholder groups. The committee was created through rules established in the latest transportation budget.

The need to look for new sources of money for transportation projects comes in part from an anticipated drop in gas tax revenue.

The state’s transportation commission will schedule the steering committee’s meetings in the upcoming weeks.
