Firefighters from multiple agencies doused a house fire in a Hockinson home Friday morning.
The fire was reported just after 9:10 a.m. at 16436 N.E. 222nd Ave., according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.
The Clark County Fire District 3 units that arrived first reported a large volume of smoke coming from the single-story house’s roof.
The fire appeared to have started near the kitchen and extended into the attic, a Fire District 3 bulletin said.
“Typically, attic fires are a problem because they run the length of the home,” said Fire District 3 Chief Steve Wrightson.
In this case, firefighters were on the scene fast enough that the fire was contained about 10 minutes after they arrived, he said.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries.
Damage, with the exception of smoke damage throughout the house, was mostly limited to the kitchen area, Wrightson said.
Crews from Fire District 3, Clark County Fire & Rescue, the Vancouver Fire Department responded to the call. American Medical Response, Clark Public Utilities and the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office also went to the house.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
