What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:
There was at least one reason for fans to root against Louisville on Saturday against Kentucky.
Those uniforms.
Fans needed to break out the sunglasses as Louisville sported its infrared uniforms for the Final Four.
The Cardinals are 5-0 in their orange, err, “red” uniforms, and they were not about to mess with that success with a trip to the NCAA title game on the line.
Well, the uniforms must have lost their luster on Saturday as Kentucky knocked off Louisville in the national semifinal.
“We’re in the Final Four. If anybody has a problem with (the uniforms), they can just chalk that up,” Louisville point guard Peyton Siva said. “We’re not going to change anything.”
Louisville was one of several teams that made fashion statements — if you can call it that in the postseason. Baylor did its best imitation of a highlighter with its fluorescent yellow uniforms, and its green camouflage combo can be re-used during hunting season. Cincinnati had some color combos that even the Crayola folks didn’t realize existed.
So economist Andrew Zimbalist, how do you feel about Frank McCourt’s sale of the Dodgers?
“It’s problematic. He was looking for some kind of ongoing income stream and he got it. Here’s a guy who borrowed practically all the money to buy the team for $430 million and now he’s selling it for $2.15 billion and he’s coming out with a healthy capital gain. — It’s repulsive. This is someone who doesn’t deserve to walk away with a healthy profit after eight years of running the Dodgers in the most egregious, the most inefficient, the most self-interested, and the most vainglorious, idiotic way possible. It really is repulsive that he will still be making a profit in some way.”
