The Hudson’s Bay Eagles and Ridgefield Spudders have new football coaches.

The Eagles have named Sylvester Green Jr. to take over the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League program. Green Jr. has been an assistant at Bay for the past two years.

“He’s high energy excitement. He knows our kids. Our kids really enjoy him. That what’s we need to rebuild our program,” said Stoney Myers, Bay’s athletic director. “He has his heart in the right place. He had opportunities to go to other places, but he wanted to stay at Bay. We feel he is definitely in it for the long term.”

Green will be Bay’s fourth coach in the past four seasons. Mike Funderburg coached the Eagles to a 1-8 record in the fall.

The Spudders, meanwhile, have gone with Dan Andersen, an assistant with the program the past three seasons.

Ridgefield, formerly a Class 1A program, is moving to the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League this fall.

“Though I certainly prefer to win, our players need to know how to both win and lose with grace,” Andersen said in a release from the Ridgefield School District. “In life, you are going do do both.”

Andersen takes over from Matt Martin, who led the Spudders to a 6-4 record in his only season as head coach.
