The historic property at 9215 S.E. Evergreen Highway is in need of a cleanup.
“We are planning a work party this Saturday to clean up the area from a lot of pruning we did over the last few months,” said Kelly Punteney, a state parks commissioner who lives on the land and has made it his personal mission to bring to fruition the arboretum and community garden envisioned by its late owner, dentist Vinson Weber. The property is owned by Clark College, which hasn’t figured out a way to incorporate the property into its educational mission without losing money.
A chipper and two skilled operators will be on site Saturday.
“While here, you will get to see the large garden we have planned and the 60-plus tomato plants we have growing to be planted in May in the garden,” Punteney wrote in an e-mail.
Work will start at 9 a.m. and finish up around 3 p.m. Punteney promises hot chicken and vegetable soups for lunch. Bring work gloves. To learn more, call 360-921-8374.
