After five seasons and a .600 winning percentage, Evergreen boys basketball coach Kelly Blankenship has decided to resign.
“It’s probably time for a change,” Blankenship said. “I’ll have time to spend time with my family. I’ll definitely miss the kids. I’ll definitely miss coaching. But maybe taking a year or two off will do me some good.”
Blankenship, 45, led Evergreen to a 69-46 record in his five seasons.
In 2011, the Plainsmen reached the Class 4A state tournament.
This season, the Plainsmen again made it to the Sweet 16, but it is now called state regionals.
“It’s been a good experience for me,” Blankenship said. “I enjoyed it.”
A teacher at Shahala Middle School in the Evergreen district, Blankenship said he wants his successor will be able to work at the high school.
