A 42-year-old bicyclist was sent to the hospital Wednesday morning after he ran a red light and was hit by a car on Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue, officials said.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m., according to emergency dispatch logs.

The man was riding south with another bicyclist on Hazel Dell Avenue when he was hit by a car going west on Northeast 94th Street, said Dawn Johnson, spokeswoman for Clark County Fire District 6.

The bicyclist ran a red stoplight and was hit by the car, which was going through the intersection on a green light, said Sgt. Fred Neiman, a Clark County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Firefighters on scene said the man’s helmet broke into four pieces when it hit the car’s windshield.

The bicyclist was sent to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with an apparent concussion, Johnson said.

The driver of the car stopped and is cooperating with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The other bicyclist wasn’t involved in the crash.

The names of the bicyclists and driver were not released.

No one was cited for the collision.
