The father of a Battle Ground boy who suffered a skull fracture told police he didn’t take his son to the hospital after the boy was injured because “it had been a long day,” investigators said in court documents. The mother also said she didn’t want to wake her son.
Patrick N. Andrews, 30, and Jessica R. Andrews, 26, made their first appearance Monday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of second-degree criminal mistreatment. Judge Scott Collier set bail at $30,000 for Patrick Andrews and $10,000 for Jessica Andrews.
Arraignment was set for March 30.
Police arrested the mother and father on suspicion of second-degree criminal mistreatment on March 17.
The two had taken their 4-year-old child to a Kaiser Permanente doctor on March 12 to be seen for a head injury, according to Battle Ground Police Department press release. The doctor referred the couple to Oregon Health & Science University for further examination of a fractured skull after concluding the boy was in “grave danger,” according to court documents.
The doctor called police on March 17 after checking in with the hospital and finding out the child had never been seen at OHSU.
