I hope you had a nice St. Patrick’s Day despite the rain showers, hail, thunder and, yes, even some snow in the foothills. Phil Delany above Dole Valley reported almost an inch of snow Saturday.
Sunday and Monday should bring scattered showers, ice pellets, and more low-level snow showers. But expect some clearing too.
March is such a fickle month, still hanging on to winter and reaching out towards spring. Regardless, spring officially arrives at 10:14 p.m. Monday. The first full day of spring will be Tuesday.
I have a happy birthday greeting for a longtime reader of The Columbian and a very faithful reader of this column since the beginning over 21 years. Patricia DeVorss of Vancouver celebrated her 91st birthday Saturday.
We certainly have no worry in the rainfall department with 3.85 inches so far this month as of 5 p.m. Saturday — 1.75 inches above average. I bet we top 5 inches or more this week. It’s also been a very cool month; the average mean temperature is about 1.5 degrees below normal.
The North Cascades are now over 160 percent of average with about six feet of new snow in the past week or so.
Last year was a wet March as well with over 6.5 inches falling in the bucket.
I am enjoying the lingering hours of daylight in the evening thanks to daylight saving time. May as well just keep it year round as it ends so late in November and begins in March now. (OK, I see the negative comments coming, ha ha.)
